23 Sep Houston Fishing Team Reels In Record-Setting Catch
A Houston, Texas based fishing team recently broke the state saltwater fishing record that had been held for 16 years.
The Legacy Fishing Team caught an 11-foot long Blue Marlin on Friday July 11th at a fishing competition in Port Aransas. The lunker landed them first-place in the fishing competition and netted them a $40,000 prize!
The captain of the crew told reporters they fought with the fish for 20 minutes and it took over 40 minutes just to get the fish in the boat.
The wildest part is that this Blue Marlin weighs 973 pounds, outweighing the previous state record holder from 1988 by over 100 pounds!
The previous record holder was caught in the Gulf of Mexico near South Padre Island.
“The International Game Fish Association says the world record for a blue marlin is 1,376 pounds” (Click2Houston).
